ATLANTA — A Georgia State Patrol trooper shot and killed a wanted murder suspect Wednesday afternoon along a busy interstate, sources confirmed to Channel 2 Action News.
It happened around 2:30 p.m. along the Interstate 85 northbound exit ramp to Riverdale Road.
Sources told Channel 2 investigative reporter Richard Belcher that the trooper was working with another agency tracking a murder suspect and got into a chase.
GSP told Channel 2′s Tom Jones that the trooper performed a PIT maneuver on the suspect. That’s when officials said 36-year-old Terrell Gas of Lithonia pulled out a gun.
Troopers said there was an exchange of gunfire. Sources confirmed to Jones that Gas was hit several times and is dead.
GSP confirmed the trooper is OK, but sources said the trooper suffered some type of arm injury.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said it has been called in to help with the case.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has confirmed Gas was wanted out of DeKalb County for an incident that took place Tuesday.
The DeKalb County sheriff confirms that they were trying to serve a murder warrant on Gas.
